• Walk Leaders Meal

On Tuesday May 21st we will be holding a Walk Leaders Meal. This is aimed at not just existing leaders but any member who thinks they might be able to lead a walk. No experience is needed as we will give you all the help and advice required. Our group depends on new leaders coming forwards to maintain and increase the walking programme which we all love so much. It is so easy and enjoyable to do. I love creating and planning new walks and it is so satisfying to be able to share these with other Ramblers. If you are not sure or have even the slightest interest in being a walk leader do come along anyway. It is always an enjoyable evening. This year it will be held in Chestfield and a free buffet provided. Watch out for details on how to book or just email David Reekie, dareekie@aol.com

• Bat and Trap Evening

On June 26th Marita has organised a Bat and Trap Evening at the Golden Lion, Broadoak. This starts at 6.30 and there is no charge, but all attendees are invited to stay for a Ploughmans meal costing £10 -£15. Further details of how to book closer to the time.

AGM

• The Annual general Meeting will be held on Sunday 3rd November at Lower Hardres Village Hall. A short walk is planned for beforehand. More details to follow.

Canterbury Ramblers' Local Interests

• England Coastal Path The England Coast Path is a new National Trail officially opened in 2020. The coast path will stretch for almost 3,000 miles/5,000 kilometres and be one of the longest continuous walking routes in the world once finished. Along the way, walkers can enjoy some stunning sections of coast: vast empty beaches, beetling cliffs, broad estuaries and saltmarshes teeming with wildlife. The England Coast Path now gives everyone the new right of open access to England’s shore down to the water’s edge.

• The Canterbury Rings Walks A network of waymarked walking routes in and around the city of Canterbury and out into the surrounding countryside, making pathfinding simple and easy, help to showcase some of the wonderful historic sites around the city, and promote tourism, exercise, and connection with nature and our heritage. The network has been created entirely from existing public rights of way, forming three distinct circular walking trails from which walkers can choose a plethora of routes of different lengths to suit their interests and abilities, from the simple couple-hour sojourn of the Inner Ring to the day-long expedition of the Outer.

• The "walking holiday provider" for the Ramblers is Ramblers Worldwide Holidays (RWH). If any of our members book a holiday with RWH then the Canterbury group can benefit financially by mentioning "the walking partnership" when booking. See more at the walking partnership's website.
